Description
A distinctive hand-carved wooden cabinet inspired by the artistic traditions of the Dogon region of Mali.
The tall, narrow form is richly decorated with geometric carving and a central panel of stylised human figures. The raised head-like finial and three-legged base give the piece a strong sculptural presence, while the front panel functions as a small cabinet door.
The surface shows natural variations in carving, grain, wear and patina that reflect its handmade character and give the object its individual appearance.
ORIGIN & ACQUISITION
Handcrafted in Mali and acquired locally during travel in West Africa.
Contemporary decorative object — not an antique or archaeological artefact.
MATERIAL
Hand-carved solid wood with a naturally varied brown patina and visible tool marks from the carving process. Wood species has not been independently identified.
