A striking hand-carved Dogon granary door from Mali, featuring an elaborate composition of geometric motifs, human figures and stylised animals.
The two-panel wooden door is richly decorated across its entire surface, with raised carvings arranged in horizontal and vertical registers. Figurative and animal motifs are combined with abstract geometric elements, giving the piece a strong architectural presence and making it particularly suitable as a wall-mounted decorative object.
The surface shows natural variations in carving, texture and patina that reflect its handmade character and give the door its individual appearance.
ORIGIN & ACQUISITION
Handcrafted in Mali and acquired locally during travel in West Africa.
Contemporary decorative object — not an antique or archaeological artefact.
MATERIAL
Hand-carved solid wood with a naturally varied brown patina and visible tool marks from the carving process. Wood species has not been independently identified.
